Hi — I’m Carlos Da Luz.
For most of my adult career, I have been a 3D Mechanical Designer with an engineering mindset, and the founder of The HandStand Shop. And if I can be completely honest… I think about this product more than I probably should. Some ideas start as sketches…Some start as problems…This one started with a simple question:
“Why hasn’t anyone made this better yet?”
I kept seeing sanitizer stands everywhere — offices, facilities, public spaces. They worked. Technically. But they felt temporary. Generic. Unrefined. As a designer, that bothered me more than it probably should have. Because when you spend years designing real-world, manufacturable products — you see things differently. You do NOT just see a stand. You see Load Paths. Stability. Tolerances. Fasteners. Material Thickness. Proportion. Durability. Finish Quality. You see what could be better…And I knew it could be better.
From Observation to Engineering
The HandStand didn’t appear overnight. It evolved. Every time I walked past another flimsy, awkwardly proportioned, visually loud dispenser stand, the idea resurfaced. Quietly. Persistently. Eventually I stopped ignoring it. Using my background in mechanical design, I began modeling what I believed a sanitizer stand should be:
- Structurally Solid
- Visually Balanced
- Manufacturing-Friendly
- Adaptable
- Purposeful
- And Yes… Better Looking
Because Design Isn’t Decoration. Design Is Problem-Solving.
If it can’t be built efficiently, it isn’t finished. If it can’t withstand real use, it isn’t ready. If it looks like an afterthought, it probably is.
So I engineered it properly — the same way professional equipment is engineered.
Designed With Discipline
Every Dimension Was Questioned…Every Bracket Justified…Every Proportion Refined. CAD models went through countless revisions. Features were added — then removed — when they didn’t serve the purpose. Simplicity was earned, not assumed. Good engineering isn’t about adding more. It’s about knowing what to leave out. The HandStand was designed from the inside out:
